The design elements in Walangkura’s paintings depict the story of a “devil devil” woman, Kutungka Napanangka, and a topographical view of the country Kutungka traveled through, in particular Tjintjintjin (near the outstation of Kiwikurra, Northwest of Alice Springs).
The roundels represent the rock holes near Tjintjintjin. The concentric circle’s represents the sites Kuntungka entered the earth
Kuntungka Napanangka was an old woman, who on her vast travels was attacked by one of a group of young boys. She chased them across the countryside, and as she caught them she killed and cooked them. Kuntungka managed to capture all, bar the culprit. She then entered the earth
